DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNITY
|
H.G. Dr. Yokob Mar Irenaios Metropolitan Diocesan Metropolitan of Cochin Diocese Malankara Orthodox Church
|
Tradition is a living and active process of passing on the faith based on the Scripture to each generation. Revelational Truth is to be found in the written books and in the unwritten Traditions. Apostolic Tradition encompasses what the apostles saw, witnessed, and later recorded in the books of the New Testament. Tradition is founded upon the Holy Trinity, it constantly proclaims the Gospel of Christ, and it is found within the boundaries of the Church and is expounded by the Fathers. Holy traditions are universal and timeless. It is in fulfillment of our Lord’s mandate to go and make disciples of all nations, that we find an authentic understanding of the church.
COVER MESSAGE
WE ARE CITIZENS OF HEAVEN
By Dr K.C.Nainan, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A
Born-again Christians are adopted citizens of kingdom of God. Through the path of simple faith in the great plan of God for salvation, we are freely bestowed the citizenship to God’s eternal kingdom. Lord Jesus Christ paid a price for our citizenship. On Calvary he became the sacrificial Lamb of God bearing all our sins for the eternal forgiveness of everyman’s sin and to regain the lost citizenship to God’s kingdom. The door to heaven is widely opened to the entire mankind to receive the new citizenship by adoption through God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
ARTICLE CHRYSOSTOM THIRUMENI - A MODEL OF RETIRED LIFE
By Prof. Dr. Zac Varghese, London
|
Chrysostom Valiaya Metropolitan’s life is an amazing reminder that nothing worthwhile is ever achieved without absolute dedication, commitment to a cause, and sustained effort. Valiaya Thirumeni’s retired life is an amazing model; he is wandering in the wilderness of the old age with his unique style and attractive style of communication. In our churches we now have a large number of retired clergy and for them and others Chrysostom Thirumeni is showing a model of retired ministry without any straight jacket of constitutional restrictions. Chrysostom Thirumeni finds support and strength in his old age because his gift is to obtain goodness from everything, which is indeed an amazing gift.
ARTICLE MEDIUM OF WORSHIP
Just as there is a physical body, 1.Cor.15: 40, there is a Heavenly body or inner or spiritual man who converse through a spiritual medium. As long as we are chained within the mortal body, we don’t hear the language of the spiritual medium. All what we see and hear are the manifestations of Heavenly images and voices. It is not the language that plays an important role for the spiritual upliftment that brings inner peace and harmony which we experience in our worship and life. Language is not the real barrier for the worship; it is the spirit that matters everything.

ARTICLE [MALAYALAM] CHURCH - THE PLACE OF WORSHIP
By Rev. Fr. Dr. T. J. Joshua
|
The innate desire of human to communicate with his creator has caused him to commence the worship of God. Initially he started to worship God in his own house. Later the communal worship had come into existence. While the Israelite went through the desert they started making tabernacle and lived around it. Eventually King Solomon made the Church of God in Jerusalem. Lord Jesus Christ loved the Church and He was keen to go to the Church regularly. It is not the tradition or bigness of the Church count, it should be worshipping place which rejuvenate our spiritual life. Our Body is another form of Church wherein the God resides.
ARTICLE [MALAYALAM] GRACE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND LOVE OF THE GOD AND COMMUNION OF THE HOLY GOST
By Rev. Fr. Dr. T. J. Joshua
|
St. Paul concludes his Epistles to Corinthians with a valediction and a benediction. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. It is usual and proper to dismiss worshipping assemblies in all denominations of Christianity. This plainly proves the doctrine of the gospel, and is an acknowledgment that Father, Son, and Spirit, are three distinct persons, yet but one God; and herein the same, that they are the fountain of all blessings to men. This benediction reiterates the faith in Trinity. The believers live in a continual regard to the three persons in the Trinity, into whose name we were baptized, and in whose name we are blessed. We can desire no more to make us happy than the grace of Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost.

Dear Believers,
The second edition of The English Translation of ANNAMMAYUM PASTERUM ( "THE MIRROR OF APOSTOLIC FAITH ') is ready for sale. It was written in a form of parody that explicitly vindicate the orthodox faith that is slowly waning away from the face of the earth. It was written by Rev.Fr.K.Ghevarughese, Anchal, of blessed memory and was soon translated into English by E.S.John. Though there have been many requests to reprint the book due to its potential demand, I regret to say that it was not done so far due to many reasons. It deals with all the basic issues that are cardinal jewels of Orthodoxy that is being repudiated by other churches because of the disputed controversies. This book is a must for every Orthodox family that aspires in inculcating the virgin orthodox faith into the heart flower of the budding generations.
The price per copy is Rs. 100. The book is published by Mar Basalius Educational and Charitable Society, Prakkanam. Those who order more than ten copies will get discount. The sale proceeds of this book will be spent for charitable works. The copies of the books may be kept in some book shops later.

Rev. Subendra Pradhan, one of three people ordained as full-time
pastors at an evangelistic convention organized at the end of February
