DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE SOCIAL EVILS IN VIEW OF SCRIPTURES
|
Bishop Rt. Rev. Mar Sebastian Thekethecheril Diocesan Bishop of the Latin Catholic Diocese of Vijayapuram Syro Malabar Catholic Church KCBC Madyavirudha Samithi Chairman
|
In the Old Testament, from time to time, the prophets heralded and confronted the evils in the society by which the nation was pushing headlong to destruction. Prophet Jeremiah warned of the destruction of those who continued to refuse repentance and its initial moderate consequences. In the New Testament time, whatever evils prevailed at the time of Lord is seen vividly in our contemporary era also. The cult of self and conspicuous consumption force us to view the human being as mere a commodity. All Christians are under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ supreme in our own lives and in human society.
COVER MESSAGE
WE ARE GOD'S FRIENDS [ROMANS 5:10-11]
By Dr K.C.Nainan, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A
It’s a wonderful and a great experiential reality to know that believers in Christ are God’s friends! Sin separated us from God, made us strangers and foreigners, unfriendly and rebellious in the sight of God like the prodigal son. Son of God became our peace between God and us. Christ destroyed the enmity between the justice of the holy God and the sinners. Jesus Himself called His disciples and the people who came to listen Him as friends, brothers, sisters and mothers. Beyond the man-made denominational barriers, we are called to proclaim and practice this friendship.
ARTICLE PRAISE, PETITION AND REPENTANCE
By V. Rev. K. Mathai Cor-Episcopa
|
Prayer is a means of communication with Triune God. It includes praise, petition and repentance. No prayer is perfect without praise and glory to God. The Lord is worthy of praise and worship, because He is the creator of all, Father who loves the world and there is none above Him. Come to the Lord not with the pride of the Pharisee, but with the humility of the Publican who had repented and returned to his home with forgiveness.
ARTICLE WHAT IS TRUTH?
By Prof. Dr. Zac Varghese, London
|
Searching for the ultimate truth has been a central concern for mankind from the ancient of times. Pilate dismissingly enquired, “What is truth?” But Jesus did not answer his question as the Truth itself was standing before him and no other answer needed for that question. So God is the truth and Jesus Christ is that same truth. During the Public Mission of Jesus, He proclaimed to the world that He is the way, truth and life.

MALAYALAM SECTION:
ARTICLE [MALAYALAM] PRAYER OF ST. PAUL FOR THE THESSALONIANS
By Rev. Fr. Dr. T. J. Joshua - Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam
|
St. Paul desired that the faith of the Thessalonians might be perfected and so he prays to the Lord in the deepest love to them as father, to make the way to meet them again soon. This kind of affection by the church fathers towards the spiritual children is extremely needed for current fathers. He earnestly prayed for the prosperity of their souls. Mutual love is required of all Christians between themselves, and between the church fathers and the spiritual children. Apostle mentions his love, his abounding love, towards them. Our desire should be to have our hearts established in holiness before God, and be preserved safe, to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
ARTICLE [MALAYALAM] WHAT DO YOU SEE, AMOS? - "A PLUMB LINE"
By H.G. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios Metropolitan
|
The plumb line which Amos had seen in his vision is Jesus Christ. If we build the wall using the plumb line, it will be straight and blameless and it will never fall. Plumb line is also the judgment of God. God is here coming forth against this sinful nation, first by one judgment and then by another. Only way which the man can turn away from the wrath of God is the repentance. Goal and guidance of our life should be Jesus Christ and plumb line we use to build our life should be the grace of God. The wall was made by a plumb-line of the grace of Jesus Christ will be very exact and firm.
MRS. MARIAM PHILIP GEORGE
|
It was a news of profound sorrow about the departure of Mrs. Mariam Philip George on 27 August, 2010. Light of Life was honored by Fr. Dr. K.M. George and Mrs. Mariam Philip George by giving consent for publishing the Prayer Book, 'My Grace is Sufficient for you' ['Ente Krupa Ninakku Mathi'] co-authored by Mrs. Mariam Philip George and so she was part of the Light of Life family. The content of the book witness how she faced the painful realities of mortal life as confirmation of faith in God and that way it became a great inspiration for many to live looking towards the real and eternal life. She clearly upheld in her book that the Christian way is to consider the sickness and pain as a cause for Godly blessings.
So far we are living in the flesh; the physical departure is always painful. The entire Light of Life Family join the sorrow of her beloved ones and offer heartfelt condolence to K.M. George Achen and other members of the family and pray that God in His eternal mercy give the family the strength to cope with, during this hard time. As a memory of her, let us recollect the strong faith, mind and thoughts, endurance, consolation and courage of Mrs. Mariam Philip George through her own writings in 'Ente Krupa Ninakku Mathi' on the link below:

Bangalore (ENI). Churches throughout India have been urged to hoist black flags on 10 August to protest against continued discrimination faced by Christian Dalits, people from low castes treated as untouchables. The protest marks the 60th anniversary of the introduction of free education and reserved government jobs to improve the social status of Hindu Dalits. Such benefits were extended to Sikh Dalits in 1956 and then to Buddhist Dalits in 1990. However, Christian Dalits, who account for two thirds of some 28 million Christians in India, as well as Muslim Dalits, are denied these rights. [345 words, ENI-10-0554]

Bangalore (ENI). The International Assistance Mission, a Christian development agency, has rejected Taliban claims that 10 of its staff killed in an attack in Afghanistan had been trying to convert Muslims. "Our faith motivates and inspires us, but we do not proselytise. We abide by the laws of Afghanistan," Dirk R. Frans, IAM's executive secretary, said in a statement at a 9 August media conference in Kabul. The 10 workers - six U.S. nationals, a Briton, a German and two local Afghan staff - were killed on 5 August as they returned from a trek through the Hindu Kush mountains, where they had been providing eye care to poor and remote communities, Frans said.
