When Apostle Peter declared that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, (Mathew 16:13-19), the Lord told him that this truth is not his self-discovery but a revelation by His own Father and he was promised to have the keys of the kingdom of God. Before this the Lord Himself told the woman of Samaria at the well, a stranger and a sinner (John 4:26) that He is the Christ whom both Jews and Samaritans were waiting. Keys promised by the Lord are not of the church; Church is a gathering of born-again believers who witness Christ in their lives. Let us not think and believe that Apostle Peter was the only one who had the promise of the keys. Every believer in Jesus Christ has the keys of Kingdom of God. Nobody could come to Christ unless the Father helps him or her to do so (John 6: 44).
We all know that a key is to open and lock a door. The keys the Lord gives to every believer are to be used for mainly for helping non-believers to be saved from the slavery and bondages of Satan, sin, death and the world, and making citizens of our Lord’s Kingdom. Of course, the fellow Christians also is to be helped when and wherever there is a need. Salvation and the eternal life are the most important achievements any human being could have in this world. Jesus Christ is the only answer and way. The keys are all the gifts, talents, potential abilities we are endowed with the Holy Spirit who is a Gift to every believer. He dowels in all born-again followers of our Lord. Without the Spirit we do not have the keys.
No Christian can say that he or she has no key! The apostles without much education began to change the world once they were filled with the Power from above. Scholars and scribes, priests and high priests and the people around were surprised when the apostles began to speak on the day of Pentecost when they were filled and baptized by the Holy Spirit. They began to do wonders and miracles. Very ordinary people began to do extraordinary tasks for the Lord. God delivered the keys to them. This is going on for the last 2000 thousand years in different parts of the world. We all have the keys to do the Lord’s work. It is our Christian duty to help in reaching the gospel to the world and sharing our blessings with the poor and needy people around us. That is the purpose of the keys entrusted to all believers. Let us all use them for God’s glory. Amen
