COME TO ME...YOU WILL FIND REST [MATTHEW 11:28-30]
By Dr. K.C.NAINAN, ATLANTA, GEORGIA, U.S.A

It is a very bold and authoritative invitation to everyone who is tired of burdens and worries of life. Along with this invitation, our Lord is offering comfort and consolation, rest and certainty, and the reason why He is able to give an alternative to what people are suffering. Jesus described Himself as gentle and humble in spirit, and His load is light and the yoke is easy. His invitation applies to anybody who is tired and burdened by the problems of daily life, religious rules and regulations, doctrines and dogmas, restrictions and reservations, traditions and legalisms set on us by various leaders, man-made inhibitions and prohibitions, secular, political, cultural, intellectual and racial burdens, our own self-imposed yokes, sufferings from the failures of the flesh, the world’s unrealistic expectations, rulings from the spiritual powers of the darkness etc. etc. Christ Jesus, the true God-Man knows everyone of us completely and He is the only one who could help us out and give relief and rest we all need.

Of course, He says that He too has a burden and yoke for every child of God, but they will be light and easy! He knows how much we all can carry and experience. He will never put anything on us, which we cannot hold. For every believer He has promised His own Holy Spirit to dwell within us and help us out in our all struggles. In other words, the Lord Himself will be a partner in carrying out our burdens and yokes of life if we allow Him to do so, because we all are His friends, brothers and sisters. When a believer falls or fails, Jesus Himself will bend and carry us on His mighty shoulders, like a shepherd carries his lost or a fallen sheep on his shoulders, or a mother hen protects her chicken under her wings when the troubles come.

In John’s gospel we read another invitation given by our Lord (John 7:37-39) to those who are thirsty to come and drink from Him. He was offering everlasting water of Holy Spirit. Only the believers could receive His Spirit. What a privilege and great gift given to all of us who are Christ’s followers! This gift was offered to the woman of Samaria at the well and it looks like she gladly accepted it (John 4) and became the first missionary of the good news as recorded in the book John’s gospel.

All Christian believers must examine, seek and search the nature of the burdens and yokes we carry and make sure that they come from our Lord. If not, we have to get rid of them, and subject ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ who alone could help us and be our partner. If not, we have to get rid of them, and subject ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ who alone could help us and be our partner. He is our own liberator from the power of sin, death and Satan. He promised that He will be with us to the end of time, through Him alone we will be able to go to Paradise when our time is over here and on the last Judgment Day, He is the only One who could call us to enter and share the eternal Kingdom of Father. His Spirit within us is the guarantee of His promises. Amen
