Rt. Rev. Dr Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Suffragan Metropolitan is consecrated as the Marthoma Metropolitan succeeding Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan who departed for heavenly abode on 18 October 2020. The enthronement ceremony was held on 14 November, 2020 at the Church headquarters at Thiruvalla. Marthoma Metropolitan is the prelate and supreme head of Marthoma Church. The ordination ceremony was conducted under the general guidance and blessings of apostolic succession of Most Rev. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Marthoma Valiya Metropolitan and head of Malabar Independent Syrian Church Cyril Mar Baselios as the chielf celebrants, in the presence of all other Episcopas of the Marthoma Church. The function was held abiding to Covid-19 protocol of the State. The ecclesiastical title given to the newly consecrated prelate is Theodosius Marthoma Metropolitan.

Bishop Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius was born on February 19, 1949, in Ashtamudi, standing grandly by the banks of the famous Ashtamudi Lake of Kollam district in Kerala, to Mr. K. J. Chacko and Mrs. Mariamma Chacko of Kizhakkechakkalayil house. Mar Theodosius studied at Baselios College, Kottayam and Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla. After taking a degree in Science he joined Leonard Theological College and took BD Degree in 1972. Geevarghese was ordained as a deacon on 24 June, 1972 and as a priest on February 24, 1973. From 1973 onwards, Kasseessa Rev. Geevarghese served several parishes including Mumbai Santacruz, Calcutta, Nanthancode, Calicut St. Pauls and outside India Parishes in Canada and Rochester in USA. He served as the first Director of Thomas Mar Athanasius Memorial Research and Orientation Center, Manganam, which promote study of Religion and Society among clergy and laity. Subsequently Rev. Geevarghese studied Comparative Religions in Visva-Bharati University, Shantiniketan in West Bengal during 1979-1980. He did his MA and Ph.D. from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada during 1980-1986.

Rev. Geevarghese was consecrated as Episcopa with the ecclesiastical title Geevarghese Mar Theodosius, on 9 December 1989, along with Late Lamented Rt. Rev. Geevarghese Mar Athanasius Suffragan Metropolitan and Rt. Rev. Euyakim Mar Coorilos. The newly consecrated Mar Theodosius was given charge of Kunnamkulam – Madras Diocese. Subsequently Thirumeni served as Diocesan Episcopa of Kunnamkulam - Malabar, Tiruvananthapuram - Kollam, Chennai – Bangalore, Malaysia – Singapore – Australia, and North America - Europe Dioceses. Currently He was the Diocesan Bishop of the Niranam - Maramon, Mumbai and Ranni - Nilackel Dioceses.

On 12 July 2020, Geevarghese Mar Theodosius was elected and chosen as the Suffragan Metropolitan, which is the title given to Marthoma Metropolitan designate, while Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan was the active prelate of the Church.
